A few days ago, I promised to tell you about our car — how much it cost, why we chose it, and how I felt driving on the left side of the road. Well, now I can finally tell you.
At first, I wanted to choose an SUV — something like a Volkswagen Tiguan. But when I started searching, I couldn’t find it, because in Asian countries European cars aren’t very popular — I understood that. So, I started looking at the cars that were actually available on the rental market. Then my brother gave me one website called BudgetCatcher. The site was very convenient, and the staff were also polite. That’s where I found the Honda City Turbo HB. I liked this car too, so I decided to choose it because it wasn’t too big or too small — just right for us. The rental price was 4,600 baht, for five days and the deposit was 5,000 baht.
For the first time in my life, I drove a car with an automatic transmission, and the steering wheel was also on the right side. At first, it felt uncomfortable because I kept trying to switch gears manually and often pressed the wrong buttons on the control panel — like the windshield wipers or turn signals. I also kept looking at the wrong side of the road, because Thailand uses left-hand traffic, while my country uses the right side.
However, after one or two days, I got used to everything — the road, the car, the rules — and I started driving with confidence. It was my first experience with an automatic transmission and driving on the left side. We drove about 700–800 kilometers without any accidents and returned that amazing and comfortable car safely.
